Monica Lewinsky, formerly known as a White House intern but now an advocate against bullying, a writer, and a producer, has embarked on yet another venture: modeling. This shift marks another chapter in her multifaceted career, as she stars in a new campaign unveiled by Reformation, a prominent fashion brand.

Entitled “You’ve Got the Power,” the campaign aims not only to showcase the brand but also to encourage voter registration ahead of the 2024 election. Lewinsky, aged 50, expressed her flattery and slight astonishment at being chosen for this endeavor, recognizing it as another step on her journey towards self-acceptance.

Reflecting on her upbringing in Los Angeles, a city she describes as prioritizing superficial beauty, Lewinsky felt she didn’t conform to the conventional standards. She humorously recalls herself as a “chubby” brunette with authentic physical attributes.

While Lewinsky embraces the opportunity to advocate for women’s voter registration through this campaign, she acknowledges a personal vanity in accepting the offer. She sees it as a chance to gain “street cred” with a new generation and hopes to absorb some of Reformation’s perceived coolness.

Posing for photographs by Zoey Grossman, Lewinsky exudes confidence and subtle allure. Some images depict her in authoritative poses, clad in garments ranging from a black leather trench coat to a scoop neck midi dress, projecting both power and femininity.

The campaign’s range of work-appropriate attire, priced from $78 to $798 for the leather trench coat, aims to cater to a diverse consumer base, with 70% of Reformation’s customers being under 35.

The initiative to approach Lewinsky came from Lauren Caris Cohan, Reformation’s chief creative officer, who admired Lewinsky’s advocacy work, particularly her 2015 TED Talk on bullying. Cohan was impressed by Lewinsky’s use of her voice for social good and eagerly sought her involvement in the campaign.

For Lewinsky, who had never previously participated in a fashion campaign, the experience presented challenges. She confessed discomfort in front of the camera and struggled with outfit choices. However, with assistance from the Reformation marketing team, including a posing coach, she navigated these hurdles with grace.

Despite her outward confidence, the photo shoot stirred up insecurities rooted in past experiences, notably the intense public scrutiny she faced during the late ’90s due to her affair with former President Bill Clinton. These experiences continue to shape her perception of herself.

Nevertheless, Lewinsky has learned to persevere through adversity, recognizing resilience as a trait that strengthens over time. She envisions her future career as multi-faceted, encompassing activism for mental health issues and projects that support women.

Her dedication to her work reflects her remarkable ability to bounce back from adversity. As she continues to evolve professionally, Lewinsky remains steadfast in her commitment to making a positive impact on society.
