The Cannes Film Festival is synonymous with red-carpet glamour, and this year, Indian celebrities turned heads with their stunning interpretations of traditional Indian attire.

From seasoned Bollywood icons to emerging stars, these fashion-forward celebrities offered a fresh take on Indian fashion, showcasing its elegance and versatility on an international platform. Here’s a look at the captivating styles that lit up Cannes 2024!

Sunanda Sharma

The singer dazzled in an elegant ivory Punjabi suit. Her outfit featured a layered, plain kameez with full sleeves, paired with a dhoti salwar. She added a dupatta with intricate embroidery along the borders and accessorised with a maang tikka and a nath (nose ring).

“The inspiration for wearing a white suit came from the beautiful swan. I wanted to honour Punjabis and our countrymen by embracing our identity with pride. A traditional suit was my first choice for Cannes,” she said.

Shahana Goswami

The ‘Bombay Begum’ actress looked radiant in a beige Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla sari, highlighted by a hand-embroidered blouse adorned with Swarovski crystals.

Aimee Baruah

The Assamese actress wowed in a stunning ‘mekhela sador’. Made from pure Muga silk, this traditional Assamese garment is renowned for its rich golden hue and natural sheen. Baruah’s ensemble featured intricate, historical motifs, showcasing the craftsmanship and heritage of her region.

Chaya Kadam

The ‘Laapata Ladies’ actress added a sentimental touch to her Cannes debut by wearing her late mother’s saree and nathni (nose ring) for the screening of her movie, ‘As We Imagine Light’. This heartfelt tribute underscored the cultural and emotional significance of Indian attire.

Entrepreneur Nidarshana Gowani impressed in a Zardozi sari with elaborate embroidery by Gavin Miguel, paired with a traditional meena jadau necklace encrusted with polki diamonds.
