Amidst the intricate tapestry of corporate maneuvers, Microsoft has bestowed the mantle of Windows and Surface chief upon the esteemed Indian-American, Pavan Davuluri, as per a report by a US-based publication.

Davuluri, an alumnus of the esteemed IIT Madras, joins the ranks of illustrious Indians helming key positions in the global technology realm. While the helm of Alphabet and Google is graced by the sagacity of Sundar Pichai, hailing from the city of Madurai, Microsoft has been steered by the acumen of Satya Nadella, a scion of Hyderabad, for a decade now. This distinguished roster also includes Arvind Krishna, at the helm of IBM, Nikesh Arora guiding Palo Alto Networks, Neal Mohan steering YouTube, and Shantanu Narayen overseeing Adobe.

Prof. Mahesh Panchagnula, the custodian of alumni and corporate relations at IIT Madras, expressed his elation, remarking, “We take immense pride in witnessing luminaries like Pavan ascend to pivotal roles in influential entities such as Microsoft, which hold sway over our quotidian existence.”

According to a report by the technology news purveyor, The Verge, following the departure of Microsoft’s erstwhile product steward Panos Panay to Amazon last year, the tech giant has opted for a bifurcation, entrusting the reins of the Windows and Surface divisions to distinct leaders. Davuluri has been entrusted with the stewardship of Surface silicon and devices, whereas Mikhail Parakhin has been entrusted with spearheading a new team focused on Windows and web experiences.

The report further elucidates that Davuluri is now entrusted with the custodianship of both Windows and Surface realms, as Parakhin has embarked on a quest for novel pursuits. Quoting an internal memorandum penned by Rajesh Jha, Microsoft’s luminary at the helm of experiences and devices, The Verge delineates Microsoft’s move to reunify its Windows and devices teams. Jha cited, “This will empower us to adopt a holistic approach to crafting silicon, systems, experiences, and devices that traverse the Windows client and cloud domains in this epoch of artificial intelligence.”

In response to queries by ET, Microsoft confirmed the veracity of The Verge’s memorandum, adding no further commentary for the nonce.

Davuluri is slated to be under the tutelage of Rajesh Jha, as per the report. It is noted that Davuluri boasts over 23 years of tenure at Microsoft, during which he played a pivotal role in the collaborative endeavors with Qualcomm and AMD to forge bespoke Surface processors.

This revelation of Davaluri’s ascension comes on the heels of Google DeepMind co-founder and erstwhile Inflection AI CEO Mustafa Suleyman’s ingress into Microsoft’s fold as the helmsman of a nascent AI ensemble.
