A notice was issued by the Delhi High court over a bail petition moved by chief minister Arvind Kejriwal to the Central Bureau of investigation on Friday in regard to a case in connection with excise policy.
At first, the high court settled with the CBI’s conflict that Kejriwal should have first proceeded to a city court.Despite that, the court later decided upon to scrutinise the claim of Kejriwal’s direct approach to the high court during the debate.
Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, speaking for Kejriwal, stated that the AAP leader is neither a Potential absconder nor a terrorist and the CBI took him into custody after he got bail in the ED’s money laundering case.
“Notice acknowledged. Petitioner has come straight to the HC; this plea will be studied at the time of debate,” Justice Neena Bansal Krishna commanded.
The court decided July 17 as the next date of hearing.
The apprehensions in the CBI case have previously been stated by the AAP chief and a related petition is unsettled in the High Court.
Arvind Kejriwal, national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party, was arrested in a money laundering case by CBI and is in judicial custody in Tihar Jail, connected to a case lodged by Enforcement Directorate.
Whereas on 21 March, Kejriwal was imprisoned to ED custody, the trial court had granted him bail on 20 June in the money laundering case, which was later stayed by the High Court.
The trial court on Wednesday extended Kejriwal’s judicial custody till 12 July in the money laundering case registered by ED.
The court further reserved the order on Kejriwal’s plea seeking the presence of his wife during consultations with the medical board of AIIMS.
